In today’s rapidly evolving professional landscape, debates around 90-Hour work and productivity have taken center stage. From discussions about the importance of accountability over sheer desk time to reflections on work-life balance in a hyper-digital era, leaders across industries have voiced their insights on fostering a sustainable work environment.

According to Mr. Sabarinath Warrier, Co-founder, HealSpan

While I firmly believe in hard work, I don’t think 90-hour workweeks are realistic. As a founder, I value accountability over merely logging hours at a desk. Throwing out such exaggerated figures trivializes genuine effort and hard work, turning a serious conversation into a social media spectacle. Blanket statements like these overlook critical nuances—humans simply cannot maintain productivity for such long stretches. In many professions, working such excessive hours could lead to catastrophic consequences. For instance, I’d never board a flight knowing the pilots have been working 90 hours a week.

According to Mr. Hanuman Tripathi, Fintech Entrepreneur, IT Industry Mentor and now Managing Partner, Lead Angels Fund

I find it hard to imagine maintaining peak performance while working 60-70 hours a week. Having worked tirelessly throughout my four-decade career, I now strongly advocate for work-life balance—not just for the younger generation, but for everyone. In today’s world, where work is ‘always on’ thanks to being fully digital, and concepts like WFH,(Work From Home), WWT (Work While Traveling), or WWW (Work While Walking) are the norm, the need for balance has never been greater. A decade ago, this wasn’t the case. It’s ironic that, while celebrating AI adoption and process automation, we’re also endorsing inhumane working hours. These two ideas simply don’t align.

According to Mr. Aditya Narayan Mishra, MD & CEO of CIEL HR

The economic opportunity our country enjoys today is immense, and it rests on the shoulders of professionals and business owners to maximize financial growth and prosperity for all of us. Achieving this, however, is not possible without hard work and dedication.

Our nation’s rise to become the 5th largest economy in the world is a testament to the vision of great leaders in fields such as politics and business, as well as the passion, determination, and commitment of millions of individuals inspired by that vision. History shows us that no remarkable achievement in any field has been possible without passion, focus, hard work, and wisdom. Looking ahead, the opportunities for the coming decades are ours to seize; it’s up to us to leverage them wisely rather than let them slip away.

That said, it’s equally important to recognize and accept that not everyone shares the same perspective or approach. We work in a multigenerational, highly diverse workforce with varying beliefs and preferences, more so than ever before. Hence, we cannot take a one-size-fits-all approach.

According to Mr. Prady, CEO and Co-Founder, NP Digital India

I’ve always believed that the quality of work is far more important than the quantity of hours put in. A 45-hour work week is more than enough to produce outstanding results. By prioritizing work-life balance, employees become more motivated and engaged, leading to higher productivity. When work-life balance is maintained, the best results come naturally, fostering an environment where both individuals and organizations thrive.

According to Mr. Devesh Purohit, Founder and CEO, Legacy Matrix PR

As a Public Relations professional, I disagree and don’t support the recent views of the L&T Chairman Mr. S. N. Subrahmanyan. Their statements are anti-ESG as they actually don’t add much to the social impact, especially of their employees with their views and incentives. If the organization pays them well, it makes sense to talk such things. Such CXOs can also opt for adding more number of employees to increase productivity and help in nation-building. The inner employees have to support them for a cover-up but their inner voice won’t align with the external share of voice and its tone. Also, “how long you will be looking at wife” is uncalled for and this also shows the mindset of the top management for D&I and their sincerity and authenticity in it. If people are willing to put in extra-hours with their will, it is a welcoming move. Many people from varying backgrounds like IAS Officers, Doctors, Police force, Founders, etc put in much more efforts than needed to get the larger work of the society done on multiple occasions. Our Honorable Prime Minister is also an example who puts in a lot of effort being in a responsible position, but he does not exploit others in the name of work. Entertainment or Leisure is the fourth basic necessity of life after Roti, Kapda and Makaan. We need productivity and skills and a holistic vision, rather than a forced demoralizing workforce working extra hours. It is sad to hear such views from top management of giant organizations in the 4IR world.
